Local Celebrities Team Up to Raise Funds for Organizations

Posted: Updated:

Many people had dinner out Monday night to help two local organizations.

It was the 24th annual Celebrity Night at 11 different restaurants in Raleigh County.

The 59News crew worked with employees at Mountain State University and Applebee's to benefit the Women's Resource Center and United Way of Southern West Virginia.

"This is really our first big event of the season," said Margaret Ann O'Neal, executive director of the United Way of Southern West Virginia. "Our goal this year is half a million dollars. All of the proceeds from tonight, that's of the United Way's portion, will go directly towards our campaign goal, so maybe we'll be able to move that thermometer up a little bit closer to that half a million dollars."

Last year's Celebrity Night raised more than $30,000.

The event ran from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
