Hundreds of young wordsmiths from across the Mountain State will be honored this Saturday, May 12, in the state's 29th annual Young Writers Celebration.

Students from 1st through 12th grade will be on hand at Riggleman Hall, on the University of Charleston campus beginning at 9 a.m., to be recognized for their performance in state and county writing contests.

Also Saturday, Ron Sowell of Mountain Stage will give a keynote address, and the Barbara W. Walters Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior.

The annual event is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Writing Project, which is part of a nationwide effort to improve writing skills in America.
