On May 6, 2012 at approximately 12:45 a.m. deputies were dispatched to VanDyke Street in the Richlands area regarding a male subject that had assaulted a family member and was brandishing a firearm.

Deputies responded to the Breeding residence, while they were in route, another call came in reporting gun shots had been fired.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered Mr. Breeding had secluded himself inside the home after his wife and child escaped out of the bathroom window.

Deputies contacted the Richlands Police Department and requested assistance from the Richlands Emergency Response Team.

Deputies and officers attempted to make contact with Breeding repeatedly by calling and shouting to him.

Breeding eventually came to the door and was taken into custody by deputies and officers after a brief struggle.

Breeding was charged with Threatening to Bomb or Burn a dwelling, Abduction, Obstruction, Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Assault and Battery on a family member.

Breeding is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Tazewell.

Sheriff Brian Hieatt stated, "I am very grateful for the rapid assistance from the Richlands Police Department, this type of inter-departmental cooperation between local law enforcement agencies clearly demonstrates the level of commitment to combating crime in our county."

The investigation is still open.
