Teens Are Abusing Pain Relievers Earlier Than Once Thought

Posted: Updated:

A new study suggests teenagers are getting high off pain relievers at a younger age than previously thought.

Researchers at Michigan State looked at young people between the ages of 12 and 21.

And found roughly 1 in 60 used prescription pain relievers to get high.

They say 16 year olds are the most likely to try it, but more and more 13, 14 year olds are starting to do it.

The authors say current prevention programs aimed at high school seniors and college students might be an example of too little, too late.
