BECKELY -
Times are tight and here at 59news, we are working to put money back into your pocket. All this month, we are testing out everyday products which over time can add up and become costly. Tonight we put to the test brands to Peanut Butter to find out which one helps you save in the month of May.
"I swear by Jif!"
The jars are open. The crackers are out and peanut-butter lovers are smacking their lips after participating in this 59 News experiment.
We are going to put three of our favorite brands to the test now! Will choosey mom's choose Jif? Or will they skip it for some Skippy? Or finally will a "no-name" come out of "no where" to win for the best taste.
We asked participants to dig in from three different plates. Plate A had our top name brand Jif, Plate B second favorite, Skippy and finally plate C our generic.
"A would be #1, B would be #2 and could would be C #3," Edward O'Byran of Shady Spring said. "A" tasted different. C had the best texture that's what it was #2," O'Bryan continued.
For this self described "casual" peanut butter eater, Jif was the top taste. Surprisingly in second he chose the IGA brand peanut butter that costs a dollar and ten cents LESS. When we told O'Byran what he would save from a no-name brand he said:
"I'd take the savings!"
This no-namer rings in at $2.49 and Jif at $3.59 for O'Byran it is a close enough second. Now, we test a 'choosey' mom who says she ONLY chooses Jif.
"That's NOT it," Lousia Shack of Shady Spring said.
But when it came time to rank, she said the generic was her favorite.
So we what did find out in our 59 News experiment, 4 out of 7 peanut butter lovers preferred the taste of Jif, but all 7 of our participants put the generic as a very CLOSE second and Skippy- just didn't measure up. So if folks are looking to save some cash ... they can stick to the generic peanut butter as a very close second.
