The final results are in for Mercer County before 10:15 in the West Virginia primary election.

When the votes were counted, Democrat Terry Hughes will face off against Gene Buckner (R) for the District II seat on the county commission.

The sheriff's race had incumbent Don Meadows beating out Kevin Weiss for the Democratic nomination.  There were no Republican candidates on the ballot for Sheriff in the primary, which all but puts him into office in November.

The competition for the assessor was close, Sharon Gearhart edged out Harold Buckner by less then 100 votes.  There were no Republican candidates on the ballot for the assessor.

There were seven Democratic candidates hoping to fill the five Magistrate offices.  The top five were Jim Dent, Rick Fowler Mike Flanigan, Susan Honaker and Charles Poe.  They defeated the closest competition by more than 1,000 votes.

Only two seats were open on the Board of Education, one each for District I and III.  Mary Alice Kaufman took the District I seat with no competition.  Paul Hodges vied against Arlene Edwards-Thomas and Thomas Hartwell for the District III seat.  He will serve having beat the closest competition by nearly 500 votes.
