BECKLEY -
A man from Washington, D.C. will spend more than a year in prison on a federal weapons charge.

U.S. District Judge Irene Berger sentenced Delonta Daniel, 24, to 15 months behind bars for possession of a weapon by a federal inmate.

Daniel pleaded guilty in January.

On October 3, 2011, a staff member at the Federal Correctional Institution Beckley conducted a search of the defendant and found him to be in possession of a five-inch homemade knife, commonly referred to as a "shank."

Daniel was incarcerated at the prison at the time of the offense, where he was serving time on a conviction of assault with intent to commit robbery in the District of Columbia.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation.  Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution.
