BECKLEY -
A Raleigh County man is sentenced in federal court for making a false statement to a federal agent.
Jeffrey Crain, 49, of Colcord, will serve two years probation and has to do 500 hours of community service.
He was sentenced, Wednesday, by U.S. District Judge Irene Berger.
Crain previously pleaded guilty in January.
The defendant was employed by the Federal Correctional Institution Beckley, when an employment-related drug test indicated that he had used cocaine.
The Bureau of Prisons subsequently conducted an investigation.
On July 6, 2011, Crain provided an affidavit to a BOP investigator in which he stated that he had never knowingly used cocaine. F
ollowing further investigation, Crain admitted that he had, in fact, knowingly used cocaine before his drug test. Crain later resigned from his position as kitchen supervisor at the Beckley prison.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney John File handled the prosecution.
