BECKLEY -
The Federal Court in Beckley
issued sentences in three different cases Wednesday.
According to a press release from U.S. Attorney Booth
Goodwin, Delonta Daniels, 24, of Washington D.C.,
was sentenced to 15 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Irene C. Berger,
for possession of a weapon by a federal inmate.
On October 3, 2011,
a staff member of the Federal Correctional Institution in Beckley
conducted a search of Daniels and found him to be in possession of a 5-inch
homemade knife, commonly known as a "shiv" or "shank." Daniels was at the
prison serving time on a conviction of assault with the intent to commit
robbery in Washington D.C.
Also sentenced Wednesday was Michael Henry, 41, of Beckley.
Henry faces 6 months in prison after being sentenced by Judge Irene C. Berger
following a guilty plea over charges of distribution of cocaine.
In January, Henry admitted that he sold 1.09 grams of cocaine
to a confidential informant working with law enforcement on April 22, 2009.
Jeffrey Crain, 49, was sentenced to 2 years' probation and
500 hours of community service, also by Judge Berger. In January, Crain entered
a guilty plea to charges of making a false statement to a federal agent.
At the time of the incident, Crain was employed by the
Federal Correctional Institution in Beckley
when a work-related drug test indicated that he had used cocaine. As part of a
subsequent investigation by the Bureau of Prisons, on July 6, 2011, Crain provided an affidavit stating
that he had never knowingly used cocaine.
Following further investigation, Crain admitted that he had,
in fact, knowingly used the drug. Crain subsequently resigned from his position
as kitchen supervisor at the Beckley
prison.
