Protecting Brain Cancer Patients from Effects of Chemotherapy

Posted: Updated:

There's a new way to protect brain cancer patients from chemotherapy side effects.

Chemo shrinks brain tumors but can also damage bone marrow.

In a new study Seattle researchers genetically modified the bone marrow stem cells of three patients - giving the marrow cells a protective shield.

All three patients were able to tolerate chemotherapy better which allowed them to live longer.
