PRINCETON -

The following is a press release from the Princeton Rays:

Former 2007 Princeton Rays' outfielder Kyeong Kang was named the AA Southern League "Hitter of the Week" for April 30-May 7, 2012.  During the period, playing for the Tampa Bay Rays' AA Montgomery (AL) affiliate, he hit .429 (9-for-21) with 4 HR, 7 RBI and 11 runs scored in 6 games, including homers in three straight games vs. the Tennessee Smokies from Tuesday through Thursday.

Kang, a 24-year old native of Busan, South Korea and a current resident of Norcross, GA, made his professional debut as a member of the 2007 P-Rays and hit .274 (56-for-203) in 55 games with 14 doubles, four triples, and three homers.  He has shown that consistency during the first five complete seasons of his professional career (2007-2011) with a .276 career batting average.  He played for the World Team in the 2009 Futures Game and was the "player of the Year" for the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York-Penn League during his season there in 2008.  He displayed his best power bat last year at Montgomery, when he pounded 11 homers and 39 RBI in 99 games for the Bisuits.

Kang was Tampa Bay's 15th round selection in the June, 2006 Draft and his signing scout was Milt Hill, who formerly was the pitching coach for the Princeton Rays in both 1997 and 1998.  Kang was drafted out of Parkview High School in Alpharetta, GA, which was also the alma mater of major league outfielder Jeff Francoeur.
