A new project is in the works that will connect Beckley, the Raleigh County Memorial Airport and Piney Creek to the Boy Scouts of America.
The proposed Piney Creek Walking Trail System will open up the area to reveal the beauty of the gorge.
Tom Cochran, with the Raleigh County Airport Authority, spoke at the Piney Creek Watershed Association's meeting Thursday evening.
He hopes the Boy Scouts will play a part in helping the project come to fruition, but says several organizations will have a role in the mission.
"Not just because the Boy Scouts are coming, but it gives us an opportunity for the local residents and also the tourists that come here to have an opportunity to walk into the history and see some of the culture of West Virginia," Cochran said.
Cochran said they filed for volunteer labor back in March, and are now looking for funding.
Anyone looking to help should contact the Piney Creek Watershed Association.
