Students in the Mountain State's 3rd through 11th grade students have only a few days to relax and rest up for the state's annual Westest standardized testing programs.
The tests, which will be issued Monday, May 14 through Thursday, May 17, are designed to measure school and student performance in math, science, social studies and language arts.
School officials want parents to do their part to help ensure their child performs at their best, by making sure they get enough rest before test days, and they have a good breakfast either at home or at school, before testing begins.
In addition to test-day prep, it can't hurt to spend a little time relaxing before all of the Westest stress hits, which is exactly what students at PikeView Middle school took the chance to do on Friday, May 11.
Teachers at the school organized silly games to help the students take their minds off of testing for the weekend. Students competed in donut eating contests and relays Friday.
"Westest is a stressful time anyway, so they've been practicing for weeks," said 7th grade math teacher Amy Pierson. "Just before the test this is a way to let them unwind a little bit – have fun for a little before Monday when it's all serious and down to business."
Several local businesses helped support Pikeview's events and provided custom shirts for the students and faculty.
