A Charleston-based fitness franchise soon will reach Rhode Island.
Brickhouse Cardio Club provides a home for fitness-related group classes such as Zumba-style dance, pilates and turbo kick. It has added 37 franchisees since January 2011.
Megan Correia will open the newest addition to Brickhouse Cardio Club, taking the franchise to its 13th state.
"Megan is a great addition to the Brickhouse Cardio Club franchise family," owner Vic Sprouse said in a news release. "She has a passion for fitness and loves taking and teaching Zumba."
Sprouse said Correia already is looking for a second location in the Westerly, R.I., area.
"After seeing the success of other Brickhouse Cardio Club franchisees and having a dream of owning my own studio, I knew Brickhouse Cardio Club gave me the best opportunity for success," Correia said in a news release. "Brickhouse is a convenient, affordable and consistent fitness option for the people of my community, and I'm very excited to open a Brickhouse for them."
Correia is a Connecticut native, and moved to Rhode Island before her husband joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2008. Correia spent the past four years in North Carolina, but when her husband was injured during his most recent deployment, the family, which includes two young sons, decided to move back to their home state of Rhode Island.
Correia attended Zumba dance classes in North Carolina to work on losing the weight she put on during pregnancy, and in the process of making friends and losing weight, she realized how much she missed dancing, something she had done as a child. Correia recently became licensed to teach her own classes.
Brickhouse co-owner Misti Janey said the franchise continues to grow, and even more announcements about new locations will be coming throughout the summer.
"Each community has responded so well with our brand," Janey said in a news release. "They save money and have consistent classes in studios built for cardio classes."
The first Brickhouse location opened in Cross Lanes in September 2010.
