W.Va., US Flags Lowered for Fallen Officers

CHARLESTON (AP) -

All U.S. and West Virginia flags are flying at half-staff in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin issued a proclamation lowering the flags Tuesday across West Virginia. The gesture is intended to commemorate all federal, state and local law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty.

May 15 was designed in 1962 by presidential proclamation as Peace Officers Memorial Day.
