BECKELY -
Times are tight... and here at 59news, we are working to put money back into your pocket. All this month, we are testing out everyday products which over time can add up and become costly.
And tonight we try and save you money on packing your little one's lunch.
What's on the menu? We're going to put it to the test we have TWO identical lunches with the same meal and we are going to see if this hungry soccer team can taste the difference between generic and brand name
Packed in these paper bags we had a turkey and cheeses sandwich, potato chips, a twinke and apple juice. We handed out two lunches to each child and asked them to them to choose which lunch they liked best. The lunch marked with the green sticker is the generic and the lunch marked with the purple sticker is the name brand.
"Well these are more salty than those," Noah Redden said.
"The purple chips, because they weren't as salty," Riley Chapman said.
Our generic lunch cost us 18.39 and our name brand cashed in at 24.74..... almost a $10 difference between the two.
After the team's taste buds were challenged the results showed the majority preferred the name brand sandwich over the generic... but the majority preferred taste of the generic twinke and potato chips over the name brand... and when it came to the apple juice the votes were even.
So what was your favorite thing you ate?
"Everything," Ben Ward said.
So what we found out in this 59 News experiment if you are looking to save some cash... you can save by purchasing the generic potato chips and dessert.... and if you want to splurge-- it may be worth sending a little extra on the sandwich....
