LEWISBURG -
May 18 is an important day for Greenbrier Valley Theatre as it dedicates its new marquee and unveils three new sidewalk stars recipients in conjunction with the opening night of its new production, a dinner theatre presentation of the hit musical "Cabaret."
The marquee, which was installed in early April, replaced the 12-year-old facade which had been in place since GVT moved to its downtown Lewisburg location in 2000.
"We are so proud of our new marquee," said GVT General Manager Pamela Paul. "We seem to have added a new attraction to Lewisburg based on the number of visitors we've seen taking pictures of it."
The 2012 recipients of the sidewalk stars, which honor major supporters of Greenbrier Valley Theatre, are Mary Laub Cowan, Richard and Jeanne Whiting and Gary and Marilyn Cooper.
The stars, which are cast in bronze and inscribed with the donors' names, serve as a permanent honor for those who have helped the theatre grow into a major regional cultural destination.
"We are happy to present the newest Sidewalk Stars to these wonderful individuals," said GVT Development Director Courtney Jesser. "They have been and continue to be invaluable supporters of the theatre."
Paul agreed, adding, "We are delighted to honor the loyal supporters who make our work possible. They are definitely our stars and we're proud to honor them in a lasting way with the stars on our sidewalk."
The ceremony, which is open to the public and will include special guest West Virginia Culture and History Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith, will take place at 6 p.m. Friday in front of the GVT.
Dinner which features traditional German food catered by Stella's in Lewisburg, will be served at 6:30 p.m. and Cabaret will begin at 7:30 p.m.
For tickets to the show, call 304-645-3838 or visit www.gvtheatre.org. Dinner, which is an additional $20 per person can also be reserved by phone or online.
Additional Cabaret show dates are May 19, 24, 25, 26, 31 and June 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. A matinee performance is scheduled for May 26 at 2 p.m. Dinner will be served one hour prior to each performance.
