World leaders set for busy US weekend of summitry

WASHINGTON (AP) -

Dozens of world leaders are heading to the United States to discuss Europe's economic woes and solidify plans for winding down the Afghanistan war.

The leaders will join President Barack Obama on Friday at Camp David in the Maryland mountains for the Group of Eight economic summit. On Saturday evening, most of them will go to Chicago for the national security-focused NATO summit.

For Obama, the back-to-back summits offer an election-year opportunity to show leadership on the world stage without having to leave U.S. soil.

But there are plenty of new faces in the G-8, and for Obama and fellow leaders, that's a stark reminder of the political turmoil from Asia to Europe that has caused changes at the top levels of government.
