CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

A Kanawha County mother will serve the maximum sentence on truancy charges after she didn't obey a judge's previous order to get her children to school.

Media outlets report that Circuit Judge Duke Bloom sentenced Melissa Pennington on Wednesday to 20 days in jail for each of her three children. She pleaded guilty to three counts of second-offense truancy.

In the other case earlier this year, Bloom gave Pennington community service and ordered her to get her children to school.

The children have missed a total of about 50 days this school year.

Bloom said Pennington can serve her sentence at a residential drug treatment program, if a place can be found for her.
