A man who sparked a statewide amber alert pleaded guilty in a Mercer County courtroom on Thursday.

An arrest was made on Thursday, May 24 by the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit in a four year old sex abuse case.
Juan Abelarado Alvarado, 38, of Mabscott faces charges of Felony First Degree Sexual Abuse and Felony Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian or Person in a Position of Trust to a Child. According to Sgt. M.K. Summers the incident occurred in Raleigh County back in 2008.
Alvarado was previously arrested on Wednesday, May 2 by the Troopers from the W.Va. State Police, Beckley Detachment for Misdemeanor Third Degree Sexual Abuse and Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian or Person in a Position of Trust to a Child. Those offenses are related to a more recent incident, also in Raleigh County.
No further information on the incidents are being release due to the age of the victims. Alvarado could face up to 25 years in prison and a $15,000 fine in the 2008 incident. The more recent incident holds penalties of a $500 fine and no more than 90 days in the county jail.
Alvarado is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond. He will be arraigned on the charges from the 2008 incident later today.
