RALEIGH COUNTY -

The spring gobbler season takes a criminal turn for some southern West Virginia sportsmen.

Officials with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources are looking to make arrests in a poaching case.

They say some turkeys were killed by hunters before the spring gobbler season began and they continued to bag birds well after the season ended.

Officers plan on making at least two arrests with more pending in the future.

Officers say these individuals knew what they were doing.

"These were very experienced hunters, they had some very expensive equipment and they knew how to use it," said Sgt. M.A. Sylvester with the DNR Law Enforcement.

The incident remains under investigation by the DNR.
