This is the time of year when construction starts to boom and Beckley is no different with a handful of businesses setting up shop.
Signage has gone up at the old Shoney's location on Robert C. Byrd Drive indicting Ocean Bay which is a seafood restaurant.
The Chief Beckley/Raleigh County Code Enforcement Bob Cannon, said the zoning permits for Ocean Bay hasn't passed his way yet, but it doesn't mean it isn't happening.
"We get a lot of inquires and I try to tell people inquires we do get people all hyped up. We've had Target and a few others but the development of the projects is a competition between the developers and one another," said Cannon who suggests it takes time and businesses to go through the proper channels before construction can start.
On Eisenhower Drive Panera Bread along with three other businesses are scheduled to be located between CVS and Sheetz. Cannon said the site approval has already been approved for the development property.
According to Cannon ground is expected to be broken in July on Panera Bread.
