CHARLESTON (AP) -

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration says it conducted a 1-day inspection blitz at 43 Alpha Natural Resources mines in three states, but it has yet to share the results.

National Public Radio says inspectors targeted former Massey Energy operations in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky earlier this week.

Virginia-based Alpha bought Massey's operations last year for $7.1 billion.

MSHA spokeswoman Amy Louviere says the blitz Wednesday followed a recent incident involving a burning conveyor belt at Alpha's Road Fork No. 51 mine in Wyoming County. That mine was cited for serious and substantial violations.

Louviere says no violations issued this week were as serious as those at Road Fork.

But Alpha spokesman Ted Pile says the Road Fork incident was not life-threatening, and workers handled it properly.
