General Alfred Beckley Honored At Home and At Grave

General Alfred Beckley was honored Saturday at his home and at his grave site on the day he was born and the day he died.

Saturday afternoon visitors took time to remember General Alfred Beckley and his lasting contributions to the city at his home, which is now the Wildwood Museum.

"Today is his birthday and the day he died...We celebrate his birth and commemorate his death," said Cindy Worley and organize of the event.

Civil War re enactors and local leaders weren't the only ones celebrating the day's events also a living descendent, June Truax.

"Coming to this house I feel its apart of my life even though I never knew about it before," said Truax.

General Alfred Beckley received a gun salute at his grave site.

Truax was pleased with how Beckley residents remember her relative and founding father of Beckley, "I'm glad they honor him in this way and restored his house to something very beautiful."

The Wildwood Museum is open for tours upon request.
