LEWISBURG -

More than 2,500 visitors were welcomed to the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg Saturday for the school's 35th commencement ceremony.

Guests and faculty honored 166 graduates as they each walked across the stage to receive their medical degree.

WVSOM's president said the annual Memorial Day weekend graduation celebrates the success of a difficult journey.

"After four years of medical school and working with patients and learning about anatomy and physiology and all the things they have to do, this culminates in our students getting their medical degree," said president Dr. Michael Adelman.

The cabinet secretary of the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts provided the commencement address and the ceremony also highlighted individuals earning honorary degrees.
