High Temperatures Prove Dangerous For Some Children

Posted: Updated:

Charleston fire officials say two children rehearsing for a concert were taken to a hospital after being overcome by heat.

Fire Department Assistant Chief Russell Parsons said the children were taken from the Civic Center's Little Theatre to CAMC Women and Children's Hospital for treatment Sunday.

The National Weather Service reported a high temperature of 92 degrees Sunday in Charleston.

Parsons said the children were among 198 participating in the Appalachian Festival of Young Voices.

He said the two taken to the hospital suffered respiratory problems and heat exhaustion, but their conditions were not considered serious.
