Update:
An alleged murder suspect is behind bars after his Nicholas County arraignment.
Thanks to checkpoints set up by local enforcement, an accused murder is behind bars for allegedly killing a couple and two small children.
Police arrested James Belknap at 4:15 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Police say Belknap tried to get through a police checkpoint in Nicholas County. It was just a few miles down from were the crime scene allegedly took place.
Belknap was a passenger in Mark Haines' vehicle when police arrested him.
Belknap was wanted in connection to the murders of Steven Hendrix, his girlfriend, Amber Martin and Hendrix's two children.
The four of them were reported missing early last week from Rainelle.
In a tragic turn of events, the bodies of all four were discovered in Nicholas County on Saturday.
Troopers said their bodies were found a mile from their abandoned van.
First Sergeant Michael Baylous with the WV State Police says the community should pray for the officers who found the four people because of the gruesome circumstances.
"This was a horrific situation and I can't go into the details of the crime scene. One of the troopers says it was one of the worst incidents he has ever responded to," said First Sgt. Michael Baylous.
James Belknap is behind bars and charged with four counts of first degree murder.
Mark Haines is charged with being an accessory to a murder and obstructing a police officer.
