The small Greenbrier County community is responding to the loss of some of their own after hearing news of an alleged murder.
59News spoke with people from Rupert Monday evening after the murder suspect James Belknap was arrested for the murders of Steven Hendrix, his girlfriend, Amber Martin and Hendrix's two children.
Nicole Carr and Shelia Newman said they knew the family and are deeply saddened by the news of their alleged murders.
"He was a very nice guy too,(Steven Hendrix) she was nice too. (Amber Martin) I went to school with her. The kids were precious," said Carr.
Newman agreed with Carr, "I think it's sad and depressing really."
Carr and Newman both say it's a shock and especially appalling the two children were murdered.
Newman said she want the full punishment for Belknap's actions, "they should shoot him and do the same way they he did to them.'
For Carr a lot of people are freaked out about the murders, "we don't know what's going on."
Belknap was arrested at 4:15 p.m. Monday after attempting to pass through a police checkpoint in Nicholas County.
Belknap was charged with four counts of first degree murder.
