HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -

Matt Daniel has been named Marshall's women's basketball coach.

Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick said Tuesday that the 35-year-old Daniel will replace Royce Chadwick, who resigned last month after 11 seasons.

Daniel served as head women's basketball coach at Central Arkansas for four seasons with a 72-50 record. During that time, he took the Sugar Bears from a Division II program to the Division I level, including a Southland Conference championship. He also was named as the 2010 and 2012 Southland Coach of the Year.

The Jonesboro, Ark., native previously served as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri, the University of Colorado, and Texas-Arlington. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for men's basketball at Arizona State.
