WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS -
State Police in Greenbrier County responded to a fatal ATV accident outside of White Sulphur Springs Thursday afternoon.
62-year-old Isaac Brown, better known as Pat, was driving a Honda TRX 700 when he crashed on Slab Mountain Road off of Anthony Road on Route 92 Thursday.
Police said the rural area is known to attract ATV riders.
"The victim lost control as he was traveling down a gravel road. The 4-wheeler then went over an embankment and struck a tree," said H. F. Blevins with the West Virginia State Police.
Police said Brown was riding on the gravel road with his brother-in-law on a separate ATV.
"There was a medevac that was on standby that they were going to bring in, but the victim actually died at the scene," said Blevins.
People in the White Sulphur Springs community said Brown was a friend to everyone.
"I've known Pat for probably 20 years. He was one of the finest people on 92. He never met a stranger," said close friend Henry Lynch.
As the weather continues to get warmer, more ATV riders will be out.
Police warn riders of the precautions to take when driving any type of ATV.
"People should always wear a helmet when they ride an ATV. Always operate the ATV within the limits of the ATV. Watch your speed," said Blevins.
Close friends of Brown said this tragedy has caused a void in the community.
"I'll always remember every time Pat would leave you, he'd always tell you he loved you. You remember people like that," said Lynch.
