Oak Hill Simplifies Street Numbers to Improve Emergency Response

Posted: Updated:

A plan to simplify street numbers is in the works for homeowners in Oak Hill.

'Numbers for the Run' is a project that would provide education to citizens on how visible house numbers can drastically improve response time in an emergency.

The U.S. Postal Service distributed the flyer to residents this week, asking them to contact the Oak Hill Police Department at 304-640-0844 to obtain free numbers and address information.

"Sometimes someone has built a house in the back or they have a half address. Sometimes they have a house that's not labeled. It's very scary because sometimes we even have to rely on the caller to stop and flag us down. Sometimes they won't be able to. Time saves lives," said P.F.C. Abbie Greenwood.

Although the Oak Hill City Police and Oak Hill Fire Department are spear-heading the project, several sponsors in the community are funding the venture. They include the U.S. Postal Service, Lowe's, Main Street Pharmacy, Plateau Medical Center, Jan Care, and Plateau Printing.
