More Protection Needed at Prosecutor's Office

Posted: Updated:

Raleigh County Commissioners held one of their regular session meetings on Tuesday and Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller spoke out about the lack of security at her office to keep employees safe.

On Monday Beckley native Matthew Stuart Wade was captured after escaping from Pruntytown Correction Center in Taylor County from over the weekend.

Wade was in prison for trying to hire a person to kill a Raleigh County police officer and Raleigh County's Assistant Prosecutor.

Wade's escape from jail brought to light the lack of security at the Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

For Keller, security is the biggest issue which needs to be addressed. "The folks we are prosecuting are psychopaths and homicidal. Right now we have an ongoing investigation of an inmate trying to hire a hit man to kill a member of my staff. So we need some security and investigator and one retired police officer can do both," said Keller.

Keller said she will be hiring an investigator who also will supply security measures for the office and employees.

The Warden at Pruntytown says Wade was moved back to Mount Olive Correctional Complex on Tuesday.
