State officials are proposing raising various taxes, including those on cigarettes, in order to raise money to repair the damaged highways.
The local roller derby team is looking to make some money to help local children's hospitals.
On Saturday, June 16, The Beckley Area Derby Dames, or BADD, is teaming up with Rite Aid to hold a Kiddie Skate at MacArthur Skating Rink from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission price is $5. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children's Miracle Network of West Virginia.
The Children's Miracle Network is a group of 170 non-profit children's hospitals that provide
premium care, high-quality research and excellent community outreach
programs to help millions of children who have diseases or injuries. In the mountain states they support WVU Children's Hospital
The Roller Derby Team also has a bout scheduled for July 7 at the Beckley Convention Center.
