National Get Outdoors Day is being celebrated June 9. People are encouraged to take advantage of West Virginia's parks facilities free of charge.
"West Virginia maintains a 'get outdoors every chance you get' mindset," said Sissie Summers with the state parks system programming services in a news release Friday. "We encourage families, friends and groups to enjoy the outdoors and to stay active year-round."
During summer months, many of West Virginia's parks with lodges, cabins and campgrounds offer nature-based activities and outdoor recreation. In addition, overnight accommodations and fee-based activities such as golf are available.
State parks and forests with summer programming services in 2012 include: Babcock, Beech Fork, Blackwater Falls, Bluestone, Cacapon Resort, Canaan Valley, Cass Scenic Railroad, Cedar Creek, Greenbrier State Forest, Hawks Nest, Holly River, Kanawha State Forest, Lost River, North Bend, Pipestem Resort, Twin Fall Resort, Tygart Lake and Watoga.
