MSU Accreditation Topic of Discussion by Interim President

Posted: Updated:

Mountain State University's interim leader says the school is a different institution than it was a year ago when problems put its general accreditation in jeopardy.

According to the Register-Herald, interim President Richard Sours recently sent an email to the Mountain State community saying the school has implemented several changes. They include a new administrative structure, smaller teaching loads and new planning processes.

Mountain State is awaiting a decision on whether it will keep its accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Last year, evaluators from the national accreditation agency cited problems in governance, leadership and faculty.

Sours said Mountain State has lost some credibility, but he's optimistic that it will keep its accreditation and regain people's trust.
