Walking Speed Could Help Determine Dementia

Posted: Updated:

Walking slower later in life could signal dementia.

Researchers in Oregon followed 93 people age 70 or older.

By putting sensors in their home, they found slow walkers were nine times more likely to have mild cognitive impairment or MCI.

The authors say more studies need to be done on larger groups to determine if walking speed could predict future memory problems.
