BLUEFIELD -

Summers vacation for some students is an actually vacation filled with poor eating and sitting around.

But for about 85 students from Mercer, McDowell, Raleigh and Tazewell counties, students are being active.

The Bluefield Recreation Center is holding a camp from Monday-Thursday, where campers can learn about basketball skills and life skills.

The camp runs from noon-4, and includes a free lunch and visit from a motivational speaker. Past speakers have included Mountain State basketball coach Bob Bolen and former Midland Trail and Concord basketball player Chris Nichols.

Campers also get a chance to work with the Bluefield High School basketball team. The Beavers held the No. 1 ranking for most of the season in Class AA and finished second overall.
