Poor Math Scores Associated with Childhood Obesity

Posted: Updated:

A new study shows another negative associated with childhood obesity, poorer math scores.

Researchers in Missouri found children who were obese starting in kindergarten performed worse on math tests in first through fifth grade.

For boys who became obese later, in third or fifth grade no differences were found.

Researchers say for both boys and girls who were obese throughout their elementary school years, feeling sadder, lonelier and more anxious explained some of their poorer math performance.
