Coroner Confirms Pennsylvania Body is West Virginia Man

Posted: Updated:

A coroner said dental records have confirmed that the badly decomposed body of a man found in a southwestern Pennsylvania river earlier this month is that of a West Virginia man reported missing in February.

The Fayette County coroner's office says the body was found June 7 on the Fayette County side of the Monongahela River just north of Point Marion.

Authorities say clothing and other clues suggested the body was that of Fred McCauley, 62, of Star City, W.Va, but investigators wanted to be sure because the body was badly decomposed.

Reports say the body was positively identified Thursday.  McCauley reportedly went fishing Feb. 28, and was reported missing after he never returned.
