A case of illegal prescription drug possession wrapped up with a guilty plea in federal court on Monday, June 17.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced that Adrian Alexander Wilson, 32, of Bluefield pleaded guilty to charges of intending to sell hydromorphone. The common name of the drug is Dilaudid.
Wilson was arrested on Jan. 26, 2011 after 79 hydromorphone pills and $635 in cash were found in a vehicle that he was riding in. Wilson admitted to law enforcement officers that the pills were his and that he planned to sell them. He also admitted that the money that was discovered was from selling drugs.
He will be sentenced on Oct. 4 by United States District Judge Irene C. Berger. Wilson faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
In the past two weeks, 12 drug dealers have been sentenced to federal prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs and other illegal narcotics. It is part of the Bluefield Pill Initiative, which is a collaborative, multi-agency regional law enforcement effort designed to halt prescription drug trafficking in Mercer, McDowell and Wyoming Counties.
