Candidates for statewide offices have filed their campaign
finance reports with the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office.
The deadline for filing the reports was June 19. Candidates
are expected to file reports detailing contributions and expenditures received
and spent during certain periods in the election cycle. This report is the
Post-Primary Report and details campaign finances from May 21 through June 19. Reports
are available on the Secretary of State's website.
Of note:
n Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin received nearly $377,000 in
monetary contributions during this reporting period and has a balance of just
more than $1.2 million. His campaign has spent $306, 600.90 on things such as
advertising, travel expenses, reimbursements and catering, among others, so far
this election cycle.
n Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Maloney reported receiving monetary contributions of
$133,052.12 and has a remaining balance of $375,223.24. Maloney's $29,043.70 in
expenditures includes bank fees, consulting fees and travel expenses, among
others.
n Sen. Mike Hall, R-Putnam,
who is challenging long time State Treasurer John Perdue for his seat, out raised the incumbent by $70 this
reporting period. Hall raised $4,070 to Perdue's $4,000. However, Perdue's war
chest is much larger, at $65,896.04. Hall has a balance of $10,891.10.
n Longtime Democratic state senator Walt Helmick, who is running for state agriculture commissioner,
received $36,790 this reporting period. However, his campaign has spent $95,307
– a huge chunk of that to TSG Consulting
for advertising. A report for Republican challenger Kent Leonhardt was unavailable at press time.
N Allen Loughry,
the only Supreme Court candidate to
receive public financing, reported receiving $350,000 from the State Elections Commission this filing
period. He has a balance of $351,755.29 and listed expenditures of $51,969.69,
mostly to the Mahan Group for
research and consulting. John Yoder raised $1,100 this filing
period and has a balance of $7,668.43. Tish
Chafin raised $34,450 this reporting period and has a balance of
$381,847.65. She listed $94,387.55 in expenditures, mostly to Rainmaker for consulting fees and
television advertising. Robin Davis
received $12,640 from contributors and has a balance of $46,544.27. She listed
$23,068.47 in expenditures.
n Auditor Glen Gainer,
who is running for re-election, raised $300 this reporting period, but has a
war chest of $32,413.91. Republican challenger Larry V. Faircloth did not raise any money this filing period and
has an available balance of $37.22.
n Secretary of State Natalie
Tennant raised $1,500 this reporting period and has $9,175 available. She
did not spend any money this reporting period. However, Republican challenger
Delegate Brian Savilla, R-Putnam, has
spent $564.69 on his campaign, all on gas or political dinners at Red Lobster in Charleston and Applebee's in Teays Valley. Savilla
raised $610 this reporting period and has an available balance of $520.73.
