Beckley native Dick McVey returns home to lead a seminar on the music business.

It happens on August 11, 2012 at the Old Federal Courthouse, RESA 1 at 400 Neville Street, Beckley, WV starting at 10 a.m.

The six-hour seminar will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. McVey will cover subjects like how to book yourself or your band, how to present yourself to a major record label, how to get your song recorded, how to care for your voice and many other topics. A question and answer session will
follow each segment. The subject matter will cover general and specific needs for Gospel, rock, country and bluegrass music.

Officials say McVey's credits include more than 500 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry as a
bass guitarist; handling publicity for George Jones; awards for "Independent Producer Of The Year", "Publicity Company Of The Year", "Who's Who In America", "Ambassador Of Music", and "Top Ten Musician Of The Year." He was Senior Editor for Performance magazine and received gold and platinum records for his work with George Jones, Vince Gill and others. He has played bass guitar for more than 20 major artists including Trace Adkins, Holly Dunn and Little Jimmy Dickens.

The fee for attending is $25 per person if you register before August 1 and $30 per person after that. A special student rate of $15 is available for persons 18 years of age and younger. Seating is limited so people are advised to register early.
