With temperatures reaching the 90 degree mark, medical professionals are urging children and their parents to take caution when at the playground.

The summer sun is usually inviting for outdoor activities, but when the sun scorches the playground equipment, children can easily get burnt.

The best way to enjoy some sunrays and not get torched is to lather up in sunscreen and limit your time in the sun.

"Be aware of the clothing they are wearing. Wear some cool clothing. Something that is safe for them to play in. Wear shoes of course. Sand and other ground may be hot. The playground equipment, watch out for the hot equipment the slide and things like that," said Charlene Warren, Chief Nursing Operator at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Warren said to pack plenty of water to keep children hydrated, but to limit long trips outside in the heat of the day.
