Firefighters in Raleigh County were beating the heat today, but they weren't fighting fires.

Bradley-Prosperity Volunteer Firefighters took to the streets for a boot drive.

The department is facing closure because they can't make their worker's compensation premium.

The funds were rolling in to the department Friday, but many were asking why they waited until the deadline.

"We had a premium last year of roughly $33,000," Bobby Palmer, the department's public information officer, said. "We knew there was gonna be an increase. We did not know how much."

The premium increased to $50,225.

If the department does not come up with the funds, Public Information Officer Bobby Palmer said surrounding departments and residents will be affected.

They have until 12:01 a.m. Sunday to make the premium.
