A new study in the journal "Pediatrics" finds infants born at 37 or 38 weeks, who are technically "at term," have an increased risk of developmental delays or other medical difficulties.

Researchers analyzed data from 128 thousand babies in New York City and matched their
birth records with their Third Grade math and reading tests.

They found achievement scores for children born at 37 and 38 weeks were significantly lower
than those of children born at 39, 40 and 41 weeks.

Scientists said the infant brain grows rapidly in the last weeks of gestation.
