Alderson's Fourth of July Parade Still Scheduled for Wednesday

ALDERSON -

Alderson is usually a very vibrant town this time of year, but Friday's storm has left many Alderson residents devastated without power, and without much of West Virginia's largest Fourth of July celebration.

Many Alderson shops and businesses rely on the annual Fourth of July celebration to help make it through the year.

After months of planning, Friday's storm postponed most of the week-long festivities.

The fire department and volunteers have helped clear roads and check on residents, but without electricity, the well-known fireworks show may be canceled.

"The fireworks are currently on hold to see what happens with power and the reason is for the safety of our citizens when we have no power, no lights, no street lights," said Frankie Jones, Alderson Volunteer Fire Department Chief.

Although most of the festivities have been canceled, Alderson's mayor confirmed the town will still celebrate the fourth of July with the annual parade.

Parade line-up will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday and the parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m.
