People throughout the region are urged to come to cooling stations set up in every county.

In Monroe County, the senior centers in both Union and Lindside are being used as cooling stations.

They provide air conditioning for anyone who needs a break from the heat, and they're even serving meals.

Water is also available.

These centers are serving a very critical role in a time of need.

"We're giving out water, you can come in for a meal if you like," Program Coordinator Hope Martin explained. "You can come in and just cool off, you can spend the night if you need to. We're just here in general to help everybody."

Although the centers are normally only for senior citizens, organizers said they are glad to welcome all members of the community in the event of an emergency.

Otherwise, they're open on an as-needed basis.
