For the second straight year, the Greenbrier Classic needed more than 72 holes to be decided.

Ted Potter Jr. went to the 17th tee box at -13. He then eagled the par five and birdied 18 to finish his round at -16.

Troy Kelly was in the last pairing with U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson. Kelly finished his round at -16 as well.

It took three playoff holes, but Potter Jr. birdied 18, once again, while Kelly pared the hole. The win was Potter Jr.'s first on the PGA Tour. He's spent most of his career on developmental tours.

Potter Jr. is 28 years old and a Florida native. He came into the week ranked No. 218 in the world and No. 173 in the FedExCup Standings.

With the win, Potter Jr. is invited to play in the British Open.

Last year's champ Scott Stallings finished the tournament -2. Greenbrier Pro Emeritus Tom Watson went +4. Webb Simpson went -11.
