Food Drive Kicks Off at WVNS Studios

Posted: Updated:

We have talked a lot about where you can find safe drinking water in the past two weeks since the initial storm on June 29.

From water pipes to toilet tanks, people go to desperate measures to locate clean water after a disaster.

It's the goal of 59News, West Virginia Media and the Governor's Office to bring it to you.

We're collecting bottled water and non-perishable food items through Friday.

Southern West Virginia was hit particularly hard, and we're told food is a major concern at food banks in our region.

Many of them tell us they've nearly emptied their supplies and West Virginians are still in need of them.

We started at noon Wednesday, but we have a long way to go to fill the truck the Army National Guard brought by the station.

The drive will run from noon to 6:30 p.m. each day through Friday.

Our sister stations in Clarksburg, Charleston and Wheeling will also be collecting food.  The donations will be given to area food banks.

We encourage you to come out and help your neighbors in West Virginia.
