Tech Talk: Apps to Beat the Summer Heat

Posted: Updated:

With the summer heat in full swing and temperatures rising into the 80s and above, it's important to know ways to stay cool. This week's Tech Talk explores some smartphone apps that can help make your summer a little more tolerable.

One of the first ways to beat the heat is to plan ahead. With the WVNS Stormtracker app, you can get fast and easy access to the current weather conditions as well as your local forecast. If you're traveling outside of the area, the AccuWeather app can offer much of the same information for areas across the country.

You can calculate your maximum sun exposure based on your skin type and local conditions with the app Beat the Heat, which can also offer tips on sunscreen protection.

One of the most important things to remember when the mercury soars is to remain hydrated. Water Your Body is an app that lets you track and view how much water you consume.

Finally, once you've tamed the heat, you might still find yourself dealing with annoying insects while trying to enjoy the great outdoors. The Anti-Mosquito App claims to use a "sonic repeller," which emits a high frequency sound that drives away mosquitoes.
